The website
Graham Hicks, who runs www.ancestralstories.co.uk approached us with a concept for a new website. He wanted to make it easier for people to find genealogists and family historians in different counties and to find people with specialist skills and knowlelge. The service, in turn is a great opportunity for professional genealogists and family histories to raise awarenesss of their business and to gain a link to their website. Graham knew how he wanted it to work and it was our job to design a system that did this effectively and a visual design that had the right look and feel for this purpose.
We designed www.ukgenealogynetwork.co.uk to be clean, modern and simple to navigate. The website acts as a step-stone for people to access the genealogist they are looking for, so visual detail has been kept to a minimun, and we used drawn lines to clearly divide up the areas of the site, and draw the eye to areas of importance. The system for genealogists to list their business has also been developed to be staightforward and quick to complete whilst being comprehensive and fit for purpose. The system also allows subcribers to pay online using a robust and safe payment service.
The logo design
The logo for the site needed to project the same clean and modern feel while communicating what the business is about. We created a logo with maximum flexibility that can be used with or without text. The shape of the ’tile’ area makes it idea for intergrating into social media, and the script style lettering gives a sense of history. The logo used with text has a smart, authoritive but accessible look.
